The Community Foundation - Rochester Area The Community Foundation

An Evening Out At Home 2012 Fact Sheet

An Evening Out At Home marked its 30th anniversary year with the traditional dinners followed by a dessert reception on May 5, 2012.

Rochester Area Community Foundation’s premier event was created in 1981 as a way to bring together members of the greater Rochester community for an elegant evening of dining and entertainment and, at the same time, raise awareness and support for the Community Foundation and its work. In 2011, An Evening Out At Home raised $52,000 for programs of the Community Foundation.

Our 2012 event co-chairs: Kate Turner Jacus, JT Jacus, Mary A. Worboys-Turner and Scott Turner.

Kate works for Genesee Regional Bank as the marketing manager. She is president of Eastman Young Professionals and on the RIT Saunders College of Business Alumni Advisory Board.  JT is a vice president at Crestmark Bank of Troy, Michigan. Based in Rochester, he is a regional business development officer.  JT is on the board of directors for the Upstate NY Turnaround Management Association and currently co-chair of the EquiCenter’s inaugural Paddles for Saddles platform tennis tournament. He and Kate were married last year and live in Brighton.

Mary’s career in education, nonprofit and finance has transitioned to extensive experience as a community volunteer. She serves on the boards of Allendale Columbia School, Continuing Developmental Services Foundation, Girl Scouts of Western New York (immediate past chair), The College at Brockport Foundation (immediate past chair), and the Community Foundation. She is a Salvation Army advisory board member emeritus. Mary is also a member of the United Way of Greater Rochester’s Women’s Leadership Advisory Council.

Scott is a partner at Nixon Peabody LLP, currently serving as national Practice Group Leader of the firm’s Energy and Environment practice. His practice focuses on energy and environmental law, particularly in matters relating to the permitting and regulation of industrial facilities. Scott is chair of the College Council of The College at Brockport, vice president of the Rochester Historical Society board, secretary of Unity Health System’s board, and a board member of The Unity Hospital of Rochester. He and Mary live in Brighton.

The Turners and Jacuses are joined by an enthusiastic and dedicated planning committee,  which organized all facets of this wonderful event.

The evening’s itinerary: Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner at one of more than two dozen designated host homes throughout the area. The Community Foundation secured the hosts (see list at right) and then each dinner guest was matched with a specific home. Part of the allure of this event is that guests have an opportunity to socialize and break bread with new people in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. Past events have drawn 300 to 500 people, so dinner companions can vary from year to year.

At each host home, a representative of the Community Foundation’s board of directors or staff highlighted information about the work of the Foundation in the greater Rochester region. This brief presentation was the only “business” that occurs during this strictly entertaining evening.

Following dinner at the host homes, all An Evening Out At Home guests were invited to a single venue for dessert, drinks and dancing. This year, guests gathered at historic City Hall in the heart of downtown Rochester. The reception's dance music was provided by The Mambo Kings
