Our Community Foundation awarded $421,910 to help 450 students attend college, graduate, business, parochial and preparatory schools in 2002-3. Donors of more than 90 scholarship funds made this possible. For how to apply, please see Grants and Scholarships. To become a scholarship donor, please see Ways to Contribute.

Across the country, school foundations are gaining popularity. They raise donations from parents, alumni, local businesses and service organizations to augment academic offerings in public schools. In 2002, we administered school foundations for school districts serving Brighton, Greece, East Irondequoit, and Rush-Henrietta. The School of the Arts also benefits from several endowed funds.

Many grants for child development also benefit public schools. Our community’s early childhood education work resulted in a 36% decline in learning problems among entering kindergarteners. Many after-school providers, including Quad A for Kids, require participants to keep their grades up. Tutoring, mentoring and homework supervision are also provided. |
